WIL Committee Frame of Reference

The frame of reference for the Association's Women in Leadership Committee determines its composition and purpose.  

Women in Leadership Committee

Membership

—Member of Provincial Executive Council (chair)

—One additional member of Provincial Executive Council

—Three field members

—3 staff members (one as secretary)

Duties

.1 To review Association structures and practices to identify opportunities to promote and enhance gender equality and women’s participation in all aspects of a member’s employment and Association life.

.2  To study, monitor and advise Council on matters affecting women in/into leadership within public education in Alberta and make recommendations for coordinating the work of the Association related to women in/into leadership.

.3  To review annually relevant Association policy and to submit recommendations to the Resolutions Committee and/or Council, as appropriate; to recommend to Council on new policy, as required.

.4  To examine various teacher groups/organizations provincially, nationally and internationally regarding trends and programming related to women in/into positions of leadership.

.5 To undertake a comprehensive needs assessment on the status of women in/into leadership within public education in Alberta.

.6 To develop a research plan relating to experiences and obstacles affecting women in/into leadership within public education in Alberta.

.7  To undertake research within budgetary limits.

.8  To constitute subcommittees as needed for the purpose of carrying out its mandate.

.9  To prepare and submit directly to the Resolutions Committee any reports on relevant resolutions referred to Council by the Annual Representative Assembly.
